About

I am a Senior Database Researcher at Huawei Research (Edinburgh) working on the cloud-native next generation data analytics platform.

Before joining Huawei Research I was a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute of Computer Science (ICS) of Foundation for Research and Technology - Hellas (FORTH), member of the Information Systems Laboratory. My research targets challenges in large scale distributed storage and stream-processing systems.

I obtained my PhD in Computer Science from the Computer Science Department, University of Crete in 2021. During my PhD studies I worked on efficient adaptation mechanisms for improving performance during internal or external changes in distributed data stores under the supervision of Professor Kostas Magoutis. I have implemented and applied proposed mechanisms in real-world, widely used data stores, storage engines and stream processing systems (Apache Cassandra, MongoDB, Redis, RocksDB, Apache Flink, Apache Samza). During my PhD studies I served as graduate research assistant at ICS-FORTH. I also enjoy community service and mentoring activities for Computer Science students, and recently led the organization of several "Career Fair" events in the Computer Science department of University of Crete.

Among several distinctions during my PhD studies, I have received the prestigious Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation (H.F.R.I.) scholarship for doctoral candidates in H.F.R.I.'s 1st Call for proposals, a highly selective nation-wide scholarship, and the Maria Michail Manasaki Doctoral Fellowship (2019-2020), a highly competitive PhD scholarship awarded yearly to a few top PhD students at the University of Crete (I was the sole winner from the Computer Science department for 2019-20). More recently, I have received the audience-voted Best Poster Award at the top-ranked ACM EuroSys'22 conference and the Grand Challenge Audience Award in DEBS'22. I have also served at the EuroSys'20 Shadow Program Committee.
