Nikolaos Partarakis is a post-doctoral researcher at ICS-FORTH. He received a B.Sc. in Computer Science, an M.Sc. in Information Systems and a PhD in Ambient Intelligence Technologies and Pervasive Computing in 2004, 2006 and 2013 respectively, from the University of Crete, Greece. He is a member of the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI) Laboratory of ICS-FORTH since 2003. He has been an active contributor to the Ambient Intelligence Programme of ICS-FORTH since its establishment, led the Web Accessibility development group and lately he is actively engaged in activities on Knowledge Representation and Presentation, Multimodal artefact Digitization, Information visualization, immersive X-Reality application and interactive experiences with emphasis of the multi facet Cultural Heritage (CH) domain.
Nikolaos Partarakis has interdisciplinary research and technological development expertise. His research interests include: (a) Intelligent and Pervasive environments and infrastructures, (b) Web-based information systems, (c) Semantic representation of knowledge and open linked data repositories, (d) Adaptive and intelligent distributed user interfaces, (e) Cultural Heritage semantic knowledge representation and presentation, (f) X-Reality applications (AR, VR, MR), (g) Serious games, (h) 3D reconstruction technologies (i) Design for All and Universal Access, (j) Universally accessible platforms and online communities, and (k) Automation, micro-controllers and robotics.
His recent research interests and activities involve the representation and presentation of multiple tangible and intangible dimensions of CH. The overall goal is to combine and present tangible and intangible information regarding human activities and man-made artefacts that together bind people and their socio-historical context.
Nikolaos Partarakis has co-authored 34 papers in international journals, 13 chapters in books and encyclopaedias (full article reviewed), 40 papers in proceedings of International Conferences and workshops (16 full-paper reviewed and 24 extended-abstract reviewed), and 2 ICS-FORTH (non-reviewed) Technical Reports. He has participated in more than fifty (50) European and national R&D projects and he is currently the Consortium Technical Manager of the EC Horizon Europe project Craeft and former Consortium Technical Manager of the EC Horizon 2020 project Mingei and the EC Horizon 2020 project DigiTraining. Furthermore, he is the Scientific Responsible of ICS-FORTH for the project EPOPTIS (MIS 5048465) and the ICS-FORTH Deputy Scientific Responsible for nine R&D projects and externally funded contracts (1 European, 4 Regional and Inter-regional, 2 National and 2 contracts). Since 2006, Nikolaos Partarakis is an active contributor engaged in attracting funding in the context of the HCI Laboratory of ICS-FORTH. To this end, he has coordinated the proposal preparation and has participated in proposal writing activities of more than sixty (60) research proposals and calls for tenders in the context of FP7, EC Horizon 2020, Greece-Germany Operational Programme, Operational Programme "Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship and Innovation", Hellenic Foundation for Research and Innovation, and public and private sector tenders. Thematically, co-authored proposals cover a wide range of Computer Science topics including Human Computer Interaction, Assistive Technologies, Ambient Intelligence Technologies, the Internet of Things, Cyber-Physical Systems, Digital Cultural Heritage, Reflective Societies, Automotive and Transportation, and ICT for Health. Based on the evaluation outcomes, Nikolaos Partarakis has contributed to attracting more than five and a half (5.5) million Euros, as the coordinator of proposal writing activities or lead author of FORTH’s participation in the aforementioned proposals.
