Brief CV:

Dimitrios G. Katehakis received an Engineering Diploma in Telecommunications from the University of Patras, Greece in 1991, and an M.S. in Computer Engineering from the University of Maryland at College Park in 1993.

Since October 2010 he heads the Center for eHealth Applications and Services at the Institute of Computer Science, Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas, in Heraklion, Crete, Greece.

The period January 2006-September 2010 he co-ordinated the Applied Integrated Medical (Health IT) Solutions (AIMS) group of the Biomedical Informatics Laboratory at the Institute of Computer Science, Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas, in Heraklion, Crete, Greece.

The period January 2001-December 2005 he worked as a Senior Telecommunications Engineer at the Institute of Computer Science, Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas, in Heraklion, Crete, Greece.

The periods June 1995-May 1998 and January 1999- December 2000 he worked as a Telecommunications Engineer at the Institute of Computer Science, Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas, in Heraklion, Crete, Greece.

The period June 1998-December 1998 he worked as a Telecommunications Engineer for the Association for Research, Technology & Training at the Science and Technology Park of Crete, in Heraklion, Greece.

The period 1994-1995 he was a Special Scientist for the Data Processing Team of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff in Athens, Greece.

The period 1991-1993 he worked as a Senior Data Processing System Analyst in the Division of Medical Informatics at the Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine of the University of Maryland at Baltimore .

He has worked as a Trainee in the Regional Branch for Conveyance Lines and Substations of Crete and Rhodes of DEI (the Public Power Corporation of Greece) in 1989 and in the Technical Department of OTE (Hellenic Telecommunications Organization) in 1990.

His major research area during his graduate studies was the exploitation of integration methods for the coupling of Expert Systems with commercial Data Base Management Systems for medical purposes, and his master's thesis title was "A Design Method for the Integration of Numeric Data with Production Rules". Today, his work focuses on data integration analysis and the development of the appropriate health information infrastructure and tools required for the provision of innovative, integrated Electronic Health Record (EHR) services. On-going work also includes the deployment of a component-based architecture for the monitoring of healthcare population data, the design of web-based medical browsing environments, as well as the intelligent management and communication of multimedia data.  

Since 2014, he serves as the Secretary General at HL7 Hellas.

Since 2016, he serves as representative of the General Secretariat for Research and Technology at the National Board of eHealth Governance.

Since 2016, he is a certified Project Management Professional.

Since 2017, he is certified in IT Service Management.

Since 2018, he serves as the Secretary General at the Hellenic Health Informatics Association
