Dimitrios G. Katehakis
received an Engineering Diploma in Telecommunications from the University of Patras, Greece in 1991, and
an M.S. in Computer Engineering from the University
of Maryland at College Park in 1993.
Since October 2010, he has headed
the Center for eHealth Applications and
Services at the Institute
of Computer Science, Foundation
for Research and Technology-Hellas, in Greece.
From January 2006 to September 2010,
he coordinated the Applied Integrated Medical (Health IT) Solutions (AIMS)
group of the Biomedical Informatics Laboratory (forerunner of CBML) at the Institute
of Computer Science, Foundation
for Research and Technology-Hellas, in Heraklion, Crete, Greece.
From January 2001 to
December 2005, he worked as a Senior Telecommunications Engineer at the Institute
of Computer Science,
Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas, in Heraklion, Crete, Greece.
The periods June 1995-May
1998 and January 1999- December 2000 he worked as a Telecommunications
Engineer at the Institute of Computer Science, Foundation
for Research and Technology-Hellas, in Heraklion, Crete, Greece.
The period June
1998-December 1998 he worked as a Telecommunications Engineer for the
Association for Research, Technology & Training at the Science
and Technology Park of Crete, in Heraklion, Greece.
From 1994 to 1995, he was a
Special Scientist for the Data Processing Team of the Hellenic National Defense General Staff in Athens, Greece.
In the period 1991-1993, he
worked as a Senior Data Processing System Analyst in the Division of
Medical Informatics at the Department of Epidemiology and Preventive Medicine
of the University of Maryland at Baltimore.
He worked as a Trainee
in the Regional Branch for Conveyance Lines and Substations of Crete and Rhodes
of DEI (the
Public Power Corporation of Greece) in 1989 and in the Technical Department of OTE (Hellenic Telecommunications Organization) in
1990.
His major research area
during his graduate studies was the exploitation of integration methods for
coupling Expert Systems with commercial Data Base Management Systems for
medical purposes, and his master's thesis title was "A Design Method
for the Integration of Numeric Data with Production Rules." Today, his
work focuses on data integration analysis and developing the appropriate health
information infrastructure and tools required to provide innovative, integrated
Electronic Health Record (EHR) services. On-going work also includes the
deployment of a component-based architecture for the monitoring of healthcare population
data, the design of web-based medical browsing environments, as well as the
intelligent management and communication of multimedia data.
During the period
2014-2024, he served as the Secretary General at HL7 Hellas.
From 2016 to 2018, he
represented the General Secretariat for
Research and Innovation at the National Board of eHealth Governance.
Since 2016, he has been a
certified Project Management
Professional.
Since 2017, he has been
certified in IT Service Management.
The period 2018-2021, he
served as the Secretary-General at the Hellenic
Health Informatics Association
From 2020 to 2022, he
served on the Mental Health Committee at the Central Board of Health of the
NHS.
Since 2021, he has served
as the Administrator of the Hellenic Digital
Health Cluster (Director since 2022)
In 2022 he was honored with
the Outstanding Services award by the
Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas
Since 2023, he serves as a
member of the scientific committee of the National
Molecular Oncology Network
The period 2023-2025 he
served as a representative of the smartHEALTH European Digital
Innovation Hub at the Innovation Team of the General
Secretariat of Public Administration
Since 2025, he serves as a
member of the scientific committee of the Digital Academy of the Greek Patients' Association
